Change coffee or ratio to get water; change water to get coffee. 1 g of water ≈ 1 ml.
Steps
- Preheat the press.
- Add coarse coffee and all the water; stir gently.
- Put the lid on (plunger up) and steep 4 minutes.
- Break the crust, skim the foam, then press slowly.
- Pour everything out immediately so it stops extracting.
Common mistakes
- Fine grind: silty, muddy cup and a plunger that is hard to push.
- Leaving coffee in the press: it keeps extracting and turns bitter.
These are starting points. Adjust grind first, then ratio, one change at a time.
